At last week’s networking meeting I got into an interesting and enlightening conversation with Sam V., who I ended up sitting next to for the first time at this meeting. Sam is one of our newer members so it was great to finally have a chance to talk with him and get to know him a bit better personally as well as professionally. He is starting his own computer business, specializing in the creating and maintaining websites for small businesses and small businesses only which is one thing that I have been curious about the past couple of weeks since hearing his allowed 3 minute talk about his company (which is something that all of us are encouraged to do) at the beginning of the few meetings that I have seen him at.
It seems that big businesses have left a very sour taste in his mouth, he won’t give a lot of details about it though and I didn’t want to pester him too awfully much about the issue at this point. For the most part the rest of the conversation was about real-time analytics, blogging, web hosting issues and options, Page Rank, website heatmaps, Google, SEO and other website topics that I have a limited knowledge about, but I can pretty much hold my own to a certain extent. I did learn a few things along the way. I had heard of click map but wasted quite sure how that all works, but after talking with Sam I really do have a better understanding and a better picture of what all he is involved with and how he is trying to run his business. He is going to be a great resource for many of us in the group that rely on the Internet for our businesses and that is what this particular networking group is all about.
