Spring

Finally spring has us in her grips and I for one am a happy camper. It had been a tough and very long winter and it makes my day go by much faster and better for that matter when the weather is nice as it is now. The summer heat will be a burden but a welcome one compared to winters cold and wet. Now we can go fishing when the work day is over and spend some time at they lake, I am teaching my grandson to swim this summer and that will be a fun grandpa job.

Big river

Nashville has a huge rive, The Cumberland River that cuts through the downtown area of town. Through the years it has flooded a few times been low very seldom and as a whole it keep rolling on down the line. It has claimed a few lives of people who fell in, jumped in or in a few cases were pushed in, After growing up in western Oklahoma where rivers are few and far between, with little if any water in them except right after the rare rain, I have learned to appreciate the rivers that are out here. I love to sit and watch the water flow by and think about where it will wind up, makes a lazy day on a river bank more than a fishing trip.

Rabies

Rabies have reared their ugly face here in the Nashville area again this summer, there have been a rash of cases of Rabies in cats this year. Most years it is more in the wild animals, but this year it has been the cats who are coming down with the rabies. Earthquake

Today a huge earthquake hit right outside of downtown Los Angles, it was reported as a 5.8 magnitude earthquake, which is not a huge one but is pretty big. They are reporting no damage and no injuries which I can not believe, there is no way some property was damaged and a big earthquake this close throws everyone back into a panic. So many people live in Los Angles a big earthquake at rush hour would be devastating and is something we do not want to see any time soon.

Tomato’s cleared

Tomato has been cleared of the chargers of making several hundred people sick in the last month or so, and the finger has been pointed at the jalapeno pepper. I knew the tomato would be cleared he is one of the life bloods in the Italian family, with out tomato’s an Italian would starve to death. The nasty little pepper is something we can live without, although I do like Spanish food from time to time. I will have to wait till the all clear is given before I have Spanish food again, I can make it on spaghetti if I have to.

The Battle of the red wasp

Our yard has been invaded by red wasps, Crash was bitten and had a terrible reaction we had to take him to the vet and get him a shot of benadryl to counter act the sting. So we have declared war on the red wasp in our yard. Two cans of wasp spray and a bug zapper have been put into play, I do not know if it is going to work but we are fighting to get our yard back. The city announced last week that a mosquito with the west nile virus was found very close to us so all of them little blood suckers have to go too. It is all out war i tell you.

Grill night

Tonight we are throwing some thick steaks on the grill, it is a beautiful night to cook outside, if we can keep the bugs away long enough we might just eat outside too. One bad thing about cooking and eating outside are the bugs. I bough a bug zapper last year and it works pretty good but only controls a small area. The mosquitoes are pretty thick this time of year and some around here carry the West Nile Virus. Sure do not want that. Ok off to light the grill.

Winter fun

Every winter I go to the mountains of North Carolina and ski and ride snowmobiles, this year I have decided to add a snowboard to my winter fun gear. Going to the lake

The weather today is simply beautiful and we are going to take advantage of it, and go to the lake and spend a little time on the boat. I really love this time of year here in Nashville, the weather is nice enough to go to the lake almost every day. I love to go fishing so that is a good thing at least it is to me not sure how the fish feel about it.

Floods

Now it is floods devastating mid America, it seems like it has been one thing after another this year. Mother Nature has had a very bad year. There are also fires raging in California again, the cycle continues. Japan just had a 7.2 earthquake, this has been a horrible year for natural disasters. Here the drought is over so it seems and we made it through another tornado season so far and gas is under $4.00 a gallon so all is not bad so it seems.

Weather

The forecast is calling for strong storms tonight again, that is just not what we need at work tonight. I hate to double bag the papers but if we do not then we get a bunch of complaints and that is worse on me than double bagging. I have to pay someone $5 for every complaint to redeliver them and that at times hurts bad. I hope we get good weather tonight, crossing my fingers.

Mother Nature

It sure seems like Mother Nature is in a very bad mood, with all the cyclones, earthquakes and all the other natural disasters happening here of late. The magnitude of the events seems to be growing also, the earthquake in China was the worst for thirty years. Who know what would happen if one of these major events would hit the United States, I fear what would happen if it did hit us. Out response would be weak I am afraid.

Winter has returned

I knew as soon as I planted some of my garden I was inviting winter to step back into our little Garden of Eden, and sure enough last night it froze. Most of the vegetables that I planted had not sprouted yet so no damage was done. Today is only in the 40’s so tonight will be very cold also, they are calling for a freeze warning so I may not be out of the woods yet.

The weather has turned so warm I went ahead and planted a little of my garden. I know it will probably freeze in the next couple of weeks but I wanted to take advantage of the warm wet weather and get some of my yard work done. The vegetables that I planted will be OK and if they do freeze they can be replaced very easily. It is never a bad thing to get a jump on Mother Nature.
